Danielle, web mistress for Carla's, was having a Garden T Party at her home in San Jose Saturday. The weather of course was a major concern, but luckily the day turned out to be sunny with temps in the 70's. We drove down in around 3 hours and arrived about half an hour early. Kathy asked if there was anything we could do and we ended up tying blue ribbons onto pink, yellow, and blue balloons and hanging them from things in the back yard. And a beautiful yard it is-- with flowers, a rock waterfall and goldfish pond spanned by a wooden bridge, hot tub, and lawn furniture, tables, umbrellas, chairs, and benches. Small critters of stone can be found hiding beneath flower bushes. An upside down brass windchime, shaped like water lilies, sprouts from the pond making musical tones in any breeze or when the pond fountain sprays against it. And a pink banner pinned onto the fence declared, "It's a Girl".
The party really was great. Danielle is such a perfect hostess. Little decorated name tags to identify guests to each other, a carnation to pin to your dress, numbered tickets for door prizes, food & drinks. Plus party favors: bubble blowers, clear plastic toy high heels filled with candies wrapped in pink crinoline and a pink note saying "It's a Girl", individual spinach quiches with toy ballerinas dancing atop. Some profession balloon sculptresses provided entertainment; creating little animals, white poodles jumping through black hoops, yellow love birds sitting inside a red heart, orange Exxon Tigers, the Pink Panther, green pregnant dogs, clear twisted shapes with marbles rolling around inside that someone described as a Martian IUD, and even mobilus strips, I guess the 3D version would be called a Klien bottle. Kathy ended up with a balloon crown and scepter in pink and blue. A Polaroid camera provided instant memories. Danielle certainly knows how to have a party.
We drove from Sonora, but the distance winners I believe were three girls from Visalia, about 4 hours south in the central valley. Karen and Pat also drove down from Santa Rosa, a shorter distance, but traffic problems in San Francisco may have made them the longest time in transit. In all, about 40 plus were in attendance. I can't recall everyone's name, but Ashley a shapely girl we have met at Carla's, Pamela, Jackie a cute and shy blonde, Joannie who we last saw in Port Angeles, Barbara, Gelsey decked out with orange purse shoes & ear rings and pale green dress, Danielle the hostess, Jennifer a TS helicopter pilot, Shelly a very passable TS, Amber whose picture was in the current article in the Metro News entitled "Male Fraud", Arlene who plays the keyboard at Carla's, Kitty a beautiful lady in her flowery garden dress and bonnet, Karen our friend from the wine country in her yellow & green flower dress, Melanie who had to go to work and was in drab, and Barbie in pink white & turquoise (sharp eyed readers may remember when this outfit was worn by Kathy on my first shopping trip to the the mall, its become mine now, hehe!) were there enjoying the hospitality. Carla wearing real women's clothes, blue jeans, dropped by for a brief visit as well. One girl came in a dazzling blue sequined dress, good thing she didn't step into the sunlight or we could have been blinded! Some one brought a purple corset that a number of girls tried on over their dresses. Tightly laced, it sure enhances a figure. Also some old clothes were given away by Shelly.
The drawing for door prizes was held with Jackie calling out numbers and the recipient picking a wrapped gift from a table full. Nearly everyone won something. Kathy got a candy necklace, I got a folding paper fan for those hot days of summer that still appear far off, Karen won an electric powered lollipop spinner with a ballerina, Pat an assortment of bath lotions and soap. Amber also got an electric lollipop spinner, but with a lavender unicorn that would prance as the pop spun.
Danielle's wife, Melinda, had decorated a small white umbrella with white lace and pink roses into a cute parasol for Danielle. A couple girls had to get their pictures taken with it, including me next to the lemon tree. It was a beautiful day for a beautiful party with beautiful friends.
