It is advisable to stay inside during a winter storm or during times when temperatures are bitterly cold. If you must go out, you should wear several layers of loose fitting, warm clothing. Wear a hat or a hooded jacket to keep heat from escaping from your body, and cover your face with a scarf to protect your skin and lungs from the cold. Socks, warm winter boots, and gloves or mittens should be worn to protect your extremities from frostbite.
The effects of winter storms can last for days at a time. When a winter storm is expected to hit your area, be sure you have plenty of food in your home. Stock foods that do not require cooking or refridgeration in case of power failure.
If you heat your home with oil, check fuel levels. Fuel trucks sometimes cannot make thier usual deliveries after a winter storm. If you have a fireplace, you may want a supply of dry wood handy.
Check the batteries in your flash lights and portable radio before the storm. You may have to rely on these items if the electricity goes out.
Watch the Weather Channel and your local broadcasting stations or listen to your radio for winter storm updates before, during , and after the storm hits.
Please be careful...........
