An open letter from the President of Chi Delta Mu:

Ladies,

We're all very sad that the Formal had to be canceled. Many of you have asked why and I wanted to answer those questions.

We were committed to at least 60 paid attendees. As of Monday afternoon we had sold a grand total of 36 tickets. Now I'm getting a lot of feedback that many of you knew people who were going to come and pay at the door. That quite frankly would have been fine, if we had sold at least 60 tickets. But taking that kind of chance was just not possible with 36. The group does not have the finances to be able to cover that many "Might shows".

As it is, we're out a fair amount to the hotel. (Not as much as if we'd waited another day before canceling, but it's enough). We're also out our deposit to the DJ, which is only fair because this is her business.

Now, several of you have asked "Well why not just hold our regular meeting instead". Very simple answer to that-We didn't reserve our 2 rooms for this month because we didn't think we'd need them so unfortunately we have no place to hold the meeting this Saturday.

Now, if anyone's interested, I will be camped out at the Marriott hotel in Teaneck this Saturday from about 3 PM to about 8 PM on the off chance that we missed getting in contact with someone about the cancellation. I feel it's only fair that at I at least be there to give them someone to vent at and hopefully catch them before they commit to a room they don't need. If any of you feels so inclined to come over and keep me company, your support would be greatly appreciated but it's not something you should feel obligated to do. And after 8, well if there's a few of you there maybe we can whip up an impromptu girls night out somewhere of there's interest. If not, no biggy-I'm still a little lagged out from being a volunteer at the Night of 1000 gowns event in NYC.

I would like to add that the officers of the chapter worked many very hard and long hours to bring this event to the transgendered community and all of us are saddened to have to cancel this event. We tried very hard to save it in fact. It all came down to advance ticket sales. We simply did not make the needed goal to go forward with the event. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may create but it is totally out of our control. Our chapter will continue to move forward in the months to come with new ideas and exciting new events. Please check back often to this site for more information.
