Sunriver Fly-out 2004
Sept. 17-19, 2004 (Two Nights)
Sunriver Spring Shake-down 2004
April 16-19, 2004
A courageous band of Oregon members devoted an entire weekend (April 16-19) to make sure the house is ready for September. The weather was varied -- sun, ice pellets, snow, and, of course, light rain and ice. Only one plane made it east of the mountains, and that one landed in Redmond. But, we all had fun - hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, shopping, dining at the Prineville Country Club. And, of course, enjoying aviation and friends.
Here are a few photos of Sunday Brunch, Greg's flight in to
Redmond and his plane, the snow,
and Carl, Evan and Gustavo on the trail
from Todd Lake.
Sunriver Fly-out
Sept. 19 - 21, 2003 (Two Nights)
Sunriver Resort 2003
This year we expanded in both time and numbers. Dave, Gustavo, Jonathan, Trevor, JJ and Evan flew, and Mike, Bruce, and Kevin drove on Friday, arriving in the early and late afternoon. (Unfortunately Marc F. came down with a flu bug.) After dropping the gear off in one of the two houses that was rented, and with Gary and Marty joining us from the Bend/Prineville area, we had some libations, and an Italian dinner at the Sunriver Mall. Following a get-acquainted dinner, we made our Saturday breakfast and dinner plans at the grocery store, and filled up with the necessary items from the liquor section. The movie for the evening entertainment was Airplane, thanks to JT and Trevor. Laughs galore as some saw the film for the FIRST time and others for the Nth time. Some went to bed, and others relaxed in the hot tub until "last call", at 2:15 a.m. (But there was no raucousness!)
Saturday dawned sunny and coolish. Mike whipped up a wonderful breakfast at House #2, and we were off and on for our adventures by 11:30 a.m. (We had to wait until it warmed up a little [yeah, right!]). Mike, Bruce, and Kevin headed off to explore Sunriver on bikes, and the rest went to Lava Lands Park, and "climbed" the Butte in style for the view (see photos) and then "hiked" throughout the lava fields.
Plans for the afternoon were changed and instead of canoeing, we decided to go up the Pine Meadows Lodge lift at Mt. Bachelor (for the view), and then head over to Elk Lake to see the lake and have lunch. With much thanks to Gary and Marty for driving, we ended up in the emptiest parking lot at Mt. Bachelor ... closed for the season. Darn. On to Elk Lake. Upon arriving, we found that 8 Model As were picnicking there, so we inspected the restoration efforts on the classic cars. After strolling down to the lake (see photos), we noticed that the Elk Lake snack bar was closed for the season. Darn, darn. It was getting to 3:00 p.m. and we were getting ready for lunch.
Back to Sunriver Grocery for a deli sandwich, and then to the house for rest and libations. Richard N. joined us from Seattle, flying in for the evening. Evan prepared "the big salad" for dinner, and Mike whipped up a potato salad and vegetable dish - both excellent. Dinner
members traveled from Portland (2 planes with 6 people, and 3 drove) on Friday afternoon, arriving somewhere between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Marty and Gary joined uswo members who live in the area came
Please pardon me if the below seems

Sunriver Fly-out - 2002
Fly-out: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14
and 15, 2002 (One Night)
Place: Sunriver Resort,
Oregon [just south of Bend, OR, on the east side of the mountains] We had two planes fly in on Saturday, with a third plane joining us on Sunday. Evan, JJ, Dave M., and Trevor G. arrived in 142EJ @ 12:15 p.m., and Marty K. had already arrived in his Taylorcraft. Gary P. was our local host / taxi. After lunch at the Trout House (with a side trip to Prineville airport), we did the Sunriver canoe paddle float. It was a beautiful day, with the temperature into the low 80's.
Sunday brunch was at 11 a.m., (unfortunately, the backlit lighting was not kind to everyone that early in the morning for a photo) which meant that Marc F., Jonathan M., and Rob H. were able to make it in plenty of time, on their way back from the Reno Air Races.
And the flight up, via Crater Lake, was also worth the ticket!
All told, it was 10 for brunch.
The flight back was fun too, as a cloud layer was covering the Valley. Marc and his two passengers got to go IFR; Evan and his passengers took the scenic route up to The Dalles, then down the Gorge, and back into the Portland area.
