This is a gallery of some of my favorite superheriones of television. I hope everyone understands my tongue in cheek title. It seems that no matter how powerful or how much good they do, these women never seem to get the respect they deserve. They are most often treated as pretty scenery. Things are changing, though, as you see in the new Xena series. the treatment of female characters in comics is getting better as well, as you can see in the much heralded "Kingdom Come" mini-series from DC Comics. I hope you enjoy seeing some great comic characters as they were brought to life on the small screen.

Yvonne Craig made a wonderful Batgirl in the old Batman TV series. She was only allowed to kick, never to punch out a villian.

Here we have my favorite, Wonder Woman. Lynda Carter is still the definitive Wonder Woman to many fans. Her beauty and regal nature seemed to define the character more than she had been defined in the comics. I feel that Lynda's talents were not used to their full potential on the show. The stories became silly and really out of character for the Amazon heroine. Even as a child watching the show, I could recognize poor writing. Fortunately, Lynda has had a good career after Wonder Woman, appearing in many TV films.

Here is a recent cover of Ms. Magazine. This was done as an homage to the first issue of the magazine.

This is a sample of the artwork from the landmark comic, "Kingdom Come". This was one of the most poetic and powerful portrayals of the Amazon princess ever. The whole series was remarkable.

I couldn't do this gallery without a nod to one of the most powerful female characters ever seen on TV. Xena:Warrior Princess is a great show full of fun adventure and over the top action. She has been compared to Wonder Woman and I think that's fair. Her power, nobility, and mythical settings are definately traits shared by the Wonder Woman character.
