Doug's Story
My name is Doug . I am a Christian-born guy who was raised with a code of being obedient and not talking back to your parents. That held until I discovered a fire, one that got me into trouble a lot of times.
I am 36 years old. When I was 13, I discovered that I was gay. I was in denial about it until I was 27. Of course I fantasized quite a bit during my years in the closet, but still I thought I could free myself from a curse that would, according to the way I was taught, doom me to hell. Thankfully, I learned the truth: God made me the way I am. I'm gay becauseGod made me gay. And God loves me for who I am, no matter what. This makes me a very happy person.
If you are a closeted gay person reading this, there is no reason to feel shame. You are special the way you are, because your gayness is God's doing. It is a good thing, and just as good as being heterosexual. Accept yourself and love yourself, because God loves you.
If you need spiritual guidance, checkout the Web site of the Metropolitan Community Church of Baltimore. It's a Christian church that welcomes everybody but offers a special ministry for the Rainbow Community of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. And it's my church; I've really found a home there and wonderful friends.
