"Gender is a reality,
and a more fundamental reality than sex.
Sex is, in fact, merely the adaptation to organic life
of a fundamental polarity which divides all created beings.
Female sex is simply one of the things that have female gender;
there are many others, and Masculine and Feminine meet us on planes of
reality where male and female would be simply meaningless."
C.S. Lewis
If I don't do for myself |
I shall be telling this with a sigh |
then who will; |
Somewhere ages and ages hence: |
If I don't do for others |
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- |
then who am i; |
I took the one less traveled by, |
if not now, when |
And that has made all the difference |

The poem as Mask
Orpheous
When i wrote of the women in their dances and wildness,it was a
mask,
on their mountain,god hunting,singing,in orgy,
it was a mask; when I wrote of the god,
fragmented, exiled from himself, his life, the love gone down with
song,
it was myself, split open, unable to speak, in exile from myself.
There is no mountain, there is no god, there is memory
of my torn life, myself split open in sleep, the rescued child
beside me among the doctors, and a word
of rescue from the great eyes
No more masks! No more mythologies!
Now, for the first time, the god lifts his hand,
the fragments join in me with their own music.
Muriel Rukeyser
And, as imagination bodies forth
The forms of things unknown, the poet's pen
Turns them to shapes, and gives to airy nothing
A local habitation and a name.
To thine own self be true.
William Shakespeare
