The Lonliest Embrace

In the dark,
In the light,
Wherever the soul is swallowed by the
Night…
This is where I find myself.

In the Middle of a smile,
In the middle of a crowd,
This is where the whisper is loud.
This is where I find myself.

No talk of hearts and flowers,
No lacy frills,
Just alcohol and pills.
This is where I find myself.

Deep holes of inky black
Harder steps to find my way back.
Clawing my way to the top.
My nails broken, feeling that I should stop.
This is where I find myself.

The embrace is absolute.
The kiss as cold as steel.
It is not something I imagine,
Or imagine it is something I feel.

The fire is out
The light is cold.
The bitterness real and told.

Looking beyond,
I see a ghost-like face.
Beyond the black, beyond the veil.
I push back the hands of the loneliest embrace.

This…is where I find myself.
