Bronson History
The Potawatomie Indians were the first known inhabitants of the area now known as
Bronson. Settlement by white men began in 1828 when Jabez Bronson came into the area
on a winding Indian trail and stayed to build his family a log cabin in the prairie region
which ow bears his name.
The first name given to the area, on June 29, 1823, was Prairie township. This was later
changed to Bronson in honor of the first permanent settler. From the beginning, the
community has grown to a thriving industrial city with a population recorded as 2267 in
the 1960 census.
