Bronson Township
Originally organized as the township of Prairie River. As
this township was broken up into several townships, some named for places of former
residence, others for famous people, Bronson Township was a bit different. It was named
for the original settler - Jake Bronson. He was also the first settler in the county, which
citizens of Bronson today point with pride. Apparently all the records of Prairie River and
Bronson townships up until 1867 were destroyed by fire when the store of Powers &
Gillam burned. Mr. Gillam was at that time Township Clerk. Some scattered official
names have been obtained in State Archives.
