Village of Quincy
Incorporated as a village on Thursday, October 14, 1858 by the
Branch County Board of Supervisors. The new village took the name of the township in
which it was located. The first village meeting and election were held at the house of
Emory W. Fillmore on Monday, November 15, 1858. William P. Arnold, Moses A.
Hewett, and Ebenezer Mudge were appointed the first election board for the village. It
appears that the original owners of the site were John Cornish, John Broughton, Joseph
Berry, Dr. Enos G. Berry, and William P. Arnold.
