History of Sherwood

Sherwood village was first platted on land belonging ot E. F. Hazen and called Hazenville for a time. The occasion for the founding of the village was the establishment of a station on the Air Line Railroad which began to operate trains in 1870. It was incorporated as a village in 1887. A post office was established in 1871 with Jerome J. Studley as the first postmaster.
