Yes, that IS a Grizzly!

Meet the Admiralty Island Brown Bear. These bears are a species of the Grizzly and Admiralty Island is said to have the densest population on earth at about one bear per square mile. The Brown Bear is the largest land carnivore on earth and lives within 50 miles of the sea. They usually supplement their diet with salmon and are much larger than the inland grizzlies.

We made these photos on 8/20/00 and, believe it or not, these are juvenile bears - about 3 years old.

Say, "Cheese!"

What a ham!
