THE FERRY
(Click any photo to ENLARGE it.)
Our ferry, the LeConte (overbooked with eager tourists), docked here. This is the deep water of the Chatham Strait - part of the Alaska Marine Highway System - also an excellent spot to fish from the "shore" (or ferry dock). The LeConte arrives twice weekly, and upon its arrival, residents flock aboard for burgers, fries, sodas, and candy from the ship's galley - a virtual "floating McDonald's" for you city dwellers!

At high tide, this is a favorite fishing spot for the eagle and the kingfisher. They're watching us make these photos and laughing at their own cleverness for staying just far enough into the trees to make a bird photo impossible.
