One of the first pictures taken of Chris/tina, by my wife Mena, in
October 1996. I had just joined the Illusion Transgender Society the
month before. I was still pretty shy about myself, and I was not too
sure about having my picture taken.
The next month I was off to Austin, Texas, to research my Master's Thesis on banditry during the Mexican Revolution. I spent four weeks in Austin, where I met Bobbi Williams from the Central Texas Gender Society.
She and other members of the CTGS welcomed me, took care of me, and showed me around Austin. It was a thoroughly wonderful experience that really opened my eyes, and deepened my appreciation for support groups like Illusion and CTGS.
