PTOP Calendar of Events

Saturday's at Noon
The Duck & Decanter Spur-of-the-monent Prime Timers Picnic
Each Saturday, weather permitting, a bunch of Prime Timers get together at the D&D on Camelback East of 16th street. This traditional event is a delightful fun way to "do" lunch. We'll hold a table for you if we see you coming. Buy your sandwich inside along with a glass of wine or soda. Sometimes the lines are long; you can call ahead to place your order at 274-5429. Come join if your in the area.

Theater Anyone?
Several PTOPers have been attending performances of the valley's "finest community theater group", Theaterworks, located in the Little Arrowhead Mall at 99th Avenue and Peoria. We recently saw "Lips Together, Teeth Apart" and the Broadway hit musical "Gypsey" and were impressed with the quality of both productions. The final two offerings will be "Witness for the Prosecution" and "Chess". We have been going the last thursday of the month. The company is about 80% sold out on a subscription basis so we are getting together a group to attend next year's season. When it is announced we will put the info in the news letter and those interested can contact Bob Palmer at (602) 875-9550. For information on tickets for the final two productions of the current season call Theaterworks at (602) 815-7930. They also have an internet site. Three productions will also be offered during the summer months. Directions are I-17 north to 101 Loop West to Peoria. Turn right about half a mile to 99th Avenue.

Prime Timers Verde Canyon Railroad adventure. Train departs 9AM sharp, try to arrive at 8AM at Clarkdale, AZ. Spring will be in full bloom with many wild flowers at their peak. For those that are interested Professor Emeritus from Columbia University Roger Batten will describe the geology of the area. This will be done very informally. Dr Batten is very approachable and lovable. During the excursion watch for ‘skinny dippers' and eagles nests along the way. Be sure to get a seat on the right side of the train or starboard side, for those accustommed to POSH accommodations. Port side-out-starboard-home, but since the train does not turn around stay on the starboard side. The cost is $35.95 per person, refundable 48 hours in advance. Senior rate is $32.95. Call 1800-293-7245 for reservations. Be sure to ask for railroad car named PHOENIX so we can all be together in one place. Wheelchair assistance is available, please advise the booking agent. The door to the open-air gondola cars is wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Please pack a picnic lunch. No hard-shell coolers are allowed and no alcohol is allowed. In order to make the early call some people stay over at a hotel in Sedona the night before. We recommend the Super 8 Motel. They are located 22 miles from Clarkdale. Call 1800-858-7245 to reserve a room. Bill and Roger have a list of other hotels if you prefer.
