Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Verterans of America Vists Primer Timers - Vists Phoenix Prime Timers
On February 9, 1999 members of the Phoenix Chapter of the Gay, Lesbian & Bisexual Veterans of America (GLBVA) spoke to members of Prime Timers. The GLBVA promotes equal treatment of all servicemembers and veterans. The Phoenix Chapter educates the public on the issue of gays in the military by their presence in veterans events and by round-table discusions. Local members are currently planning a Memorial for GLB veterans at the National Cemetery in Phoenix. GLBVA members - Wally Straughn, Frac Gaxiola, Monica Helms, and Calvin Vaness - spoke of their personal military experiences as well as general history of gays in the military.

Puccini's "La Beheme" March 18, 7:30PM
The world's most popular opera, Puccini's "La Boheme" will be the final offering of Arizona Opera's current season. Four performances of the verimo composer's greatest work will be offered at Symphony Hall in Phoenix beginning March 18 at 7:30 PM. Earlier performances will take place in Tucson. First performed in 1896 in Turin, Italy, the work received its American premiere in (of all places!) Los Angeles, California, by a touring Italian Company in 1901. Renowned for its sumptuous score and soaring melodies, the opera has been a favored vehicle for many a famous tenor and soprano. Get tickets early. Performances will likely be sold out.
