The stabbing death of gay Michael Barber, 56, has been charged to Andrew Delaney, 24, who was known to have engaged in prostitution with men he met at Fort Lauderdale gay bars and is a member of the Folk Nation, a gang associated with the California-based Crips. Delaney was identified from photos by neighbors of Barber who had seen the two together in Barber's truck on March 11, the last time Barber was seen alive. The truck had broken down and been abandoned when it was discovered on March 17 in Boynton Beach. Apparently Delaney had hitched rides all the way to Detroit, where police discovered him hiding in his mother's home. They also found there electronic equipment from Barber's home. There were outstanding warrants against Delaney in Michigan. No firm connection between Barber's death and that of September murder victim Charles Squires, 64, has been reported, even though both were gay men relatively new to Fort Lauderdale when they were found in their own homes naked in plastic bags, stabbed to death.

The killings are reminiscent of those of Andrew Cunanan, the gay male prostitute who killed five in Minnesote, Illinois, New Jersey, and Florida before killing himself.

Andrew Cunanan killed at least five people in 1997 in a coast to coast crime spree.  The gay male prostitute eventually killed himself after gunning down fashion designer Versace.
