Seattle Bisexual Women's Network
Discussion Group and Social Events

What you can expect

SBWN has meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the Month from 6:30pm-8:30pm.

We structure discussion groups to begin with social time at 6:30. At about 7pm the discussion begins. Some meetings are scheduled with a set topic. Others are open rap groups. The meeting ends by 8:30pm.  Sometimes a group goes out for snacks or coffee to continue the conversation.

All bi-positive women are welcome at these meetings. We ask that only people who have attended our meetings come out afterwards. Please do not ask your partners or friends to join us afterwards if they have not attended a meeting before as we want to maintain anonymity.

In mid 2008 our group averages 6-10 women. New members attend regularly. There are around 100 women connected to SBWN through email announcements, newsletter, phone list, social events and discussion groups.

The conversations are usually very engaging, enlightening and riveting. Most attendees are very articulate in their expression and conversations flow freely from topic to topic on open discussion night. During open discussions and on topic nights our facilitators keep the meeting on track and allow the less expressive members an opportunity to talk. The rest of us are often very straightforward with a lot to say about the world. A dull group we are not!

We have a very broad range of women who refuse to be boxed into groups. Included are bisexuals of all types, bi-curious, bi-exploring, lesbians with bisexual risings, married, single, partnered, monogamous, polyamorous and a variety of alternative life style preferences.

Many women have come to our group several times and ended up with close friends and women to explore events around Seattle and the outer areas.

Facilitators are usually long-term members but you can get involved & facilitate a topic of interest or be a guest speaker in your area of expertise.

No children please and 18 years or older.

The Rules

  • We insist on absolute confidentiality. If you see another member of any meeting on the street, do no mention the bisexual women's group by name in front of nonmembers. Personal disclosures are personal; if you wish to talk after the meeting to a member about something she said during the meeting, ask permission first. Do not "out" people with indiscreet phone messages.
  • We disallow discounting behavior. Please do not interrupt, "side-talk", ridicule, or otherwise invalidate the other meeting attendees.
  • We welcome diversity. We respect divergent feelings, opinions, values, and backgrounds - none of us have a monopoly on the truth.
  • We encourage the participation of all who come. We affirm the risks taken by members and support those who share their personal stories. No one is obligated to speak, however, and we ask those who do share to please respect the group's time.
