CAPTAIN KATHRYN JANEWAY of the Starship Voyager started her career with Starfleet as a science officer, serving under Captain Paris - Tom Paris's father - on the Al-Batani.  She was raised by her scientist parents in Indiana, Earth, and worked her way through the ranks to Captain, eventually being commissioned to lead the crew of Voyager.  KATHRYN is renowned for her impeccable sense of diplomacy, and her steadfast dedication to all on board - skills much needed when you're 70 years from home.  Personally I'm just happy to see a woman at the helm of a Starfleet vessel... and what a woman she is...
KATE MULGREW  was born April 29th 1955 in Doboque, Iowa. She left to study acting in New York at 17 and found her way into the business easily. Not just the "luck of the Irish", but her unique voice landed her a part in the ABC drama "Ryan's Hope". She has also featured in many films including "Throw Mamma from the Train".  KATE was the perfect woman for the first female Captain on Star Trek, the no holds barred approach makes her the Katherine Hepburn of the series for me!  She is the mother of two sons, and now lives in Hollywood.
