Golden Goal No 1:
16 August 1998 v
Southampton (a)
Owen's first goal of the season comes on the opening day at
Southampton as Liverool begin theseason with a victory. Saints
'keeper Paul Jones can only punch the ball out as far as Owen,
and he makes no mistake with a venomous volley into the beck of
an unguarded net.
Golden Goal No 2:
30 August 1998 v Newcastle (h)
The first goal in stunning owen treble came folloeing by
Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given who couldnthold a Paul Ince shot.
The ball ran loose to Owen who volleyed home in style from tight
angle beating Given for pace at his near post.
Golden Goal No 3:

McManaman defence splitting pass sends Owen through on goal,
leaving defenders trailing in his wake. And he makes no mistake
with an exquisite finish, shooting low between the legs of
goalkeeper Given.

Owen saved his best of the game till last with a goal that will
live long in the mwmory this season. having wriggled his way past
the challenges of a couple of Newcastle defenders, owen superbly
flicked the ball with the outside of his right foot into the far
corner of Given's goal. It was a fitting way to complete a
memorable hat-trick his first of the season.
Golden Goal No 5:
15 September 1998 v FC Kosice (a)
Fowler had been on the field only fifteen seconds when he helped
Owen registered this goal. Fowler, back in the side after a
serious knee injury, perfectly weighted a pass and Owen strode
through and calmly slotted the ball past the Slovikian 'keeper to
put Liverpool firmly in control of this UEFA Cup tie.
Golden Goal No 6:
24 Oktober 1998 v Nottm Forest (h)
A magnificent personal day for Owen began when Paul Ince won a
ferocious tackle in midfield. His pass found Owen on th elest,
and he had time and space to curl a glorious shot into the far
corner of the net beyongd the reach of Beasant.
Golden Goal No 7:

Outclassed Forest defender Hjelde can only watch Owen speeds him
down the outside and briliantly curls the ball beyond Beasant
into the far corner of the goal for his secound of the aftrenoon.
Golden Goal No 8:

Owen is given a chance to complete his treble from the penalty
shot after himself being fouled in the area. He taken no chances,
goes for power rather than precision, and Anfield erupts as
Liverpool turn this Premeirship fixture into a procession.
Another hat-trick for owen to celebrate - but there was still
more come.
Golden Goal No 9:
24 Oktober 1998 v Nottm Forest (h)
For the first time in a Liverpool shirt Michael scored four goals
in the same match courtesy of a late strike against Forest.
Taking advantage of more woeful Forest defending, he slid the
ball home from close range to seal a comfortable victory for The
Reds.
Golden Goal No 10:
10 November 1998 v Tottenham (h)
Owen's aggression made thisgoal possible as he wen in hard on
goalkeeper Espen Baardsen as the ball ran loose. His
determination paid off as the ball broke kindly for him to roll
easily into an empty net.
Golden Goal No 11:
20 November 1998 v Celta Vigo (a)
Owen takes McManaman's through ball perfectly in his stride and
calmly slots a low shot past Richard Dutruel in the proved to be
a false dawn for Liverpool, who went on to lose the game 3-1
Golden Goal No 12:
29 November 1998 v Blackburn (h)
Blackburn goalkeeper John Filan thought he had done the hard part
when he saved a venomous Owen drive from just inside the area,
but there was nothing he could do to prevent the Liverpool
striker sending the ball into the bak of the net when the rebound
fell kindlt into his path eight yards from the goal.
Golden Goal No 13:
19 December 1998 v Sheff Wed (h)
Bjornebye's ballfound Heggem in space and the Norwegian in turn
found owen inside the box. Owen's control set up the chance as he
had time to drift past one defender before sending a low shot
hard into the bottom corner of Pressman's goal.
Golden Goal No 14:
28 December 1998 v Newcastle (h)
Liverpool and Newcastle again fought out a magnificent Anfield
battle full of goals and drama. Owen was again the Liverpool
hero, scoring twice -the first a well taken low shot past Shay
Given into the corner of the net at the Kop end.
Golden Goal No 15:
28 December 1998 v Newcastle (h)
In a game which ebbed and flowed from first whistle to last, Owen
gave liverpool the lead at 3-2 woth a powerfull drive from just
inside the area, beating Given at his near post. Karlheinz Riedle
was to go on to seal the witn with a fourth goal late on.

3 January 1999 v Port Vale (a)
Owen is fouled inside the area by Vale defender Paul Beesley and
then gets off the ground to net from the penalty spot. It wasnt
the sweetest shot he has struck this season - the goalkeeper got
a hand to the ball - but it gave Liverpool a crucial lead in this
FA Cup third round tie.
Golden Goal No 17:
16 January 1999 v Southampton (h)
Liverpool enjoyed thier biggest win of the season against a sorry
Southampton side at Anfield - running out 7-1 winners. Perhaps
suprisingly, Owen netted just the once with a simpleclose range
finish from Babb's perfectly weighted cross into the centre.
Golden Goal No 18:
24 January 1999 v Man Utd (a)
Liverpool get off to a dream start in this FA Cup clash at Old
Trafford with a goal inside the opening minutes. Heggem delivers
a cross from the right hand side and Owen gets in between the two
United centre halves to direct a precise header into the far
corner of Scmeichel's net, giving the United goalkeeper no chance
at all.
Golden Goal No 19:
6 February1999 v Middlesbrough (h)
Fowler's acrobatic over head kick from the angle of the six yard
box looks to be heading for the corner of the net, but Owen makes
sure Liverpool have an early lead by blasting the loose ball high
into the back of the goal.
Golden Goal No 20:
20 February1999 v West Ham Utd (h)
This was one of owens more fortunate goals this season as his low
shot from outsie the area takes a wicked deflection off England
team-mate Rio Ferdinand leaving the West Ham goalkeeper with no
chance of stopping the ball crossing the line.
Golden Goal No 21:
27 February1999 v Chelsea (h)
Liverpool faced a huge challenge in this game when they went two
goals behind, but Owen's neat finish with thirteen minutes left
to play gave them hope, breaking clear of the Chelsea defence, he
calmly clipped the ball over the advancing De Goey into the back
of the net.
