Lament of the Lost
Kaden Sinclair 2002
Now I lay me
down to sleep
where dwell in slumber
wonders weep
for all the squandered
days of youth
and the all the days
lost in sooth.
Wanton wayward weary way
is wedded yet
when end today
with all the laughter
smiles and tears
that kept me going
through the years.
Diamonds bedeck
and hidden there
within the days
we often share.
So as the day
does wane away
nighttime shrouding,
giving sway
to all tomorrows
lost and fey.
I reflect
and thus recall
things that raised me,
made me fall.
All the laughter
tears or pain
are netted in
by slumber's seine
to live again
illusions reign
Such dreams reflect
upon our lives
incondign, penurious
guile contrives
revealed for truth
in dreams like knives
Now I lay me
down to sleep
being held,
privation deep
of someone there
to say good night
kiss my tears,
forgive my plight
And still be there
when fails the light.
