Darwin's return is not accepted by all as a joyous occasion. Richard feels scorned and his Jealousy rages like an Inferno.
He goes to his uncle, who tells him that sometimes, things just aren't meant to be. Richard also learns something he would rather not hear: Quentin suspects he is dying. He hasn't gone to the doctor in quite a while and hasn't been taking very good care of himself as he should, and it's catching up with him.
