History: Wealthy Bruce Carter III had a visitation from the ghost of this Revolutionary War ancestor, Bruce Carter I. The ghost informed Carter III that he must continue the family tradition of fighting for liberty. Carter III was then given the location to a cloak once worn by his ancestor. Bruce Carter III found the cloak and was bestowed amazing abilities. Creating the costumed identity of the Fighting Yank, Carter III struck out to fight Nazis and criminals of the day. His girlfriend Joan and the spirit of Bruce Carter I would often assist him. The Fighting Yank served as a member of S.M.A.S.H. both during and after WWII.

One could assume Carter III married his long time girlfriend and later had his daughter Carol. Carol would later gained similar powers as her father and the two became a team. In 1969 the Fighting Yank, his daughter and other members of S.M.A.S.H. were placed in suspended animation above the Earth from an alien menace. Thirty years later Tom Strange and his counterpart, Tom Strong, freed him along with the other science heroes. During the battle that would ultimately defeat the alien menace, Carter III was killed while protecting his daughter. Carter III was buried at the battle site in Antarctica with his unscathed hat and cloak sealed on top of his grave. His death caused Carol to loose her powers.

Bruce Carter III did not move on, instead his spirit remained on Earth and tried continuously to make contact with his daughter. That day came three years after the defeat of the alien menace and during a new threat by former hero Mystico. Carol accompanied former members of S.M.A.S.H. on a hunt for Tom Strange. They found him in Antarctica, the burial site of her father. With a hint from the Green Ghost, Carol tried her father's old hat on. This physical act gave Carter III the ability to communicate with his daughter. Carter III passed on his mystical cloak to Carol, who became Fighting Yank II. Bruce Carter III now aids his daughter just as his ancestor once did for him.

Powers: Bruce Carter III had powers that came from the mystical cloak he wore. The Cloak granted him super-human strength, invulnerability and the power of flight. Carter III also had a connection to the spirit of his Revolutionary War ancestor, who aided him from time to time. His ancestor had been known to appear as a giant-like form on some adventures.
