In 1969 Carol, her father and other members of S.M.A.S.H. were placed in suspended animation above the Earth by an alien menace. Thirty years later Tom Strange and his counterpart, Tom Strong, freed her along with the other science heroes. Their combined might defeated the alien menace, but it cost the life of her father. His death severed their connection and left Carol bereft of her powers. Adjusting to the changed world around them created turmoil within S.M.A.S.H. and the group disbanded. With the loss of her team and her powers, Carol established herself as a teacher in the city of New Lancaster.

Soon a new threat came about in the form of Mystico. Helping former members of S.M.A.S.H. find Tom Strange to defeat Mystico led Carol back to the burial place of her father. A hint from the Green Ghost had Carol place her father's hat upon her head. This physical act connected her with the spirit of her father and bestowed his former powers upon her once more. Carol as the new Fighting Yank helped defeat Mystico. During this time Carol began a relationship with Diana Adams (Ms. Masque). Eventually S.M.A.S.H. was reassembled and Carol joined the team once more. She continues to be a valued member to this day.

Powers: Carol’s powers come from the mystical cloak she wears. Like the original Fighting Yank, the cloak grants her super-human strength, invulnerability and the power of flight. Carol also has a connection to the spirit of her father. Bruce Carter III now aids his daughter just as his ancestor once did for him.
