THE GREEN GHOST
Real Name: George Chance History: George Chance spent years in India learning his magical "yogi" abilities. He used these gifts to fight evildoers and investigate the supernatural as The Ghost. His assistant Betty would often partake in his exploits. It is not clear if Chance became a member of S.M.A.S.H. during or after WWII. In 1969 an alien menace invaded Earth. Attempting to stop the alien, some members of S.M.A.S.H. were killed while others were imprisoned in suspended animation. Chance was killed by the alien, however, he choose to remain in this reality in his astral form with the help of his yogi magic. Becoming The Green Ghost, Chance was imprisoned in suspended animation above the Earth along with other science heroes. Thirty years later Tom Strange and his counterpart, Tom Strong, freed him and the others. Together they ended the threat of the alien menace. In the aftermath of adjusting to the changed world around them, S.M.A.S.H. disbanded. The Green Ghost reconnected with Betty and continued his investigation of the supernatural. Three years later another threat arose that The Green Ghost began investigating. The death of Lance Lewis and an expanding energy field that made all technology useless led Chance to join Grant Halford and other former members of S.M.A.S.H. against the one-time hero Mystico. The science heroes stopped Mystico’s god-like plans and Chance joined the reformed team of S.M.A.S.H. During the crisis Chance introduced Grant to his widow wife Betty and the two later married. Chance continues to be a member of S.M.A.S.H. to this day. Powers: As the Ghost, Chance had many magical abilities that are still not fully known. He could however, levitate, astral project, turn invisible, turn others invisible, travel at the speed of light and to some extent control elemental forces. Once dead, the Green Ghost’s mystical abilities increased to the extent that has yet to be determine. His added powers include the ability to construct objects out of ectoplasm, communicate and sense other spirits and commune on other planes of existence. |
