History: : The year Smenkhkare was born a volcanic island in the Mediterranean Sea exploded. When he was older the Great Plague came and his brother, Akhenaten was driven mad. Smenkhkare assumed the throne and an Egyptian priest was quick to blame his birth for the nation’s troubles. It was believed a god possessed Smenkhkare and indeed the Egyptian god Seth possessed him. Those who feared him murdered him and cast magical spells to seal his tomb. Not properly mummified, Smenkhkare only laid in sleep as time past.

In the 1940s, Dr. Slade attempted to test his Vital-Ray machine on Smenkhkare’s corpse to see if he could re-animate the dead. The machine backfired and killed Dr. Slade. However, the Vital-Ray did revitalize Smenkhkare and he awoke in the Metropolitan museum in New Lancaster. While learning more about the New World around him, Smenkhkare became the science hero, Mystico. He began dressing as a mummy after discovering the advantages of a secret identity. He destroyed all records of his previous appearances after that. It wasn’t long before he became a member of S.M.A.S.H. and fought at their side.

In Smenkhkare’s travels after WWII he discovered a lost Atlantean City in the Grand Canyon of the United States. Reverting to his god- like ways he began exerting his influence over the local natives. He would remain content there until 1969, when an alien menace invaded the Earth. As Mystico, Smenkhkare helped the other members of S.M.A.S.H. in their attempt to stop the alien. Along with other science heroes he was captured and placed in suspended animation above the Earth. After thirty years Tom Strange and his counterpart, Tom Strong freed him and the others. Together they stopped the threat of the alien.

Like the others, Mystico had trouble adjusting to the chaos of the new time period. Within three years S.M.A.S.H. disbanded and the megalomaniac computer program, The Terror 2000, created by the original Terror was running amuck. Still under the influence of Seth, Smenkhkare felt it time to begin his plans for world domination. To acquire the power to do so, he killed time traveler, Lance Lewis. Lewis’ death caused a time energy anomaly to which Smenkhkare tapped into. He began using his increased powers to make all technology on Earth useless.

Former members of S.M.A.S.H. were asked to investigate and in doing so learned the whole truth about Smenkhkare. The Scarab allowed himself to be bonded to Seth’s brother, Thoth and helped put a stop to his former teammate’s god-like plans. A compromise was made between the U.S. government and Seth. The Grand Canyon and fifty square miles around it now belonged to Seth with his brother Thoth keeping an ever vigil eye on him.

Powers: Possessed by the Egyptian god Seth, Mystico has tremendous magical powers and strength.
