PYROMAN
Real Name: Dick Martin History: Dick Martin was a young research student that conducted experiments with high voltage electricity. A side of effect of those experiments was his body’s storage of electrical currents. Martin was wrongfully charged for murder and sentenced to die in the electrical chair. Somehow the existing currents stored in his body saved him from certain death. After the ordeal Martin discovered his ability to summon electrical energy at will. With the help of his college instructor, Prof. Clark, Martin fought crime as Pyroman. His college sweetheart, Joyce Clark, who was unaware of his secret identity, often wound up in his adventurous exploits. During WWII Pyroman joined S.M.A.S.H. In 1969 an alien menace invaded Earth. Attempting to stop the alien, some members of S.M.A.S.H. were killed while others were imprisoned in suspended animation. Pyroman was one of those imprisoned. He was freed thirty years later by Tom Strange and his counterpart, Tom Strong. Martin, like the other science heroes had to readjust to the current time period. This took its toll on S.M.A.S.H. and the team disbanded. Three years later a new threat arose and the government called in former members of S.M.A.S.H. for help. Martin was one of them that answered the call. While heading to the nexus of an energy field that made all technology useless, Martin was one of the heroes that lost their powers. Determining the field-affected science based heroes; Martin was one of the team members left behind while others continued on. The threat was discovered to be the one-time hero Mystico, who was forced to end his god-like plans. With the crisis averted S.M.A.S.H. reassembled and Pyroman became a member once again. Powers: Pyroman has the ability to summon electricity at will and transmit electrical bolts. He is able to magnetize metal objects, create electrical force fields and electromagnetic pulses. Also, Martin can fly by means of magnetic currents and radio waves. |
