THE TERROR 2000

First Appearance: Tom Strong #12

History: The Terror 2000 program was part of Bob Benton’s Project Omega, a security protection system to be employed by any city that subscribes to it. Benton downloaded his own personality into The Terror 2000 program. He created Project Omega sometime before 1969 and never implemented it. Benton told his young partner Tim in secrecy to activate Project Omega if anything should happen to himself.

When the alien menace invaded Earth Benton was one of the fatalities. Tim and other science heroes were placed in suspended animation above the Earth. Tom Strange escaped capture and returned 30 years later with his counterpart Tom Strong. The two freed the other science heroes and Tim told them of Benton’s Project Omega. Together the science heroes found Benton’s secret laboratory and activated Project Omega and The Terror 2000 program. The Terror 2000 infiltrated the alien menace and programmed it to fly into the Earth’s sun, ending its threat.

Three years later, the Terror Inc corporation implemented the now updated Terror 2003 program in L.A., Boston and Invertica City. The criminal element fought back and the mob hired the Grim Reaper to stop The Terror 2000 program. Using Diana Adams as a hostage, The Grim Reaper entered Terror Inc. looking for control center in order to shut the program down. The Terror 2003 intercepted and killed The Grim Reaper.

As this was going on the earth was being threatened by a mysterious technology-plague sweeping through the country making all technology useless. The one-time hero Mystico was discovered to be behind the threat. Mystico had planned to stop the spread of the Terror 2003 program and conqueror the world for himself. S.M.A.S.H. stepped in and ordered a truce, where both Mystico and the Terror 2003 program activities were limited to specific boundaries.

The program, upgrading to The Terror 2004, took on a darker agenda. During a time anomaly crisis caused by an unconscious Captain Future, The Terror 2004 attempt to capture Future’s ship. The program believed it could use the ship to control time. With Benton’s personality downloaded in it, the program became obsessed with Ms. Masque to the point of kidnapping her. The Terror 2004 was speculated to have killed Tim and replaced Tim’s brain with it’s computerized one. In the end, a possible past self of Benton emerged out of time to destroy The Terror 2004 program.
