The Richmond Bisexual Network

ROBIN, The Richmond Bisexual Network was formed in October, 1993. We are affiliated with BiNet USA, the national bisexual organization, along with being listed The International Bisexual Resources Center (BRG) guide and all editions of the GAYELLOW Pages.

In our early history, we wrote a Mission Statement...

The Richmond Bisexual Network, hereafter known as ROBIN, offers acceptance, information and support to the Bisexual Community. We will accomplish these objectives by:

  • Uniting within our own community and celebrating our common ground called Bisexuality
  • Offering Education, Information and Outreach to everyone regardless of sexual orientation
  • Provide a safe, non-threatening atmosphere for discussion and social interaction
  • Acts as a social/support group for bisexuals in the Richmond area
  • ...to this day we continue to live by this Mission Statement.

We are an Educational, Social, Support and Political Activism group. We are NOT a matchmaking group, a swingers group, nor do we promote activities or sponsor events for multiple sexual partners (the "typical" stereotyped image of Bisexuality). We feel these actions and activities are best done by individuals on their own and in private, not endorsed by our group.

When we started, the core membership included Gen X'ers, College Students and other younger people. Today, our group members and participants are somewhat older in terms of age, usually post-college with careers.

We don't have a "typical" member: ages range from the 20's through 60's, white and blue collar, professionals, service sector folks, married (with or without children), some have "significant others" of either sex, some are single, some are divorced, or are just Bi "curious". All are in various stages of bisexuality and don't know where to go next. We even have supportive non-Bi's stop bi from time to time of every orientation.

(Other organizations in Richmond serve young people who may believe or have determined they are bisexuals such as the Richmond Organization for Sexual Minority Youth (ROSMY) for pre-college age folks and the VCU Sexual Minority Students Alliance (SMSA) for college aged folks at this school).

We have always had close ties with the Richmond T/G ("Transgender") community and all of its variations. They, like us, are often mis-understood by Gays and Lesbians, and of course by the heterosexual "world".

You don't have to be a "member" of ROBIN to participate in our activities, and ROBIN has no dues.
