my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Sunday 12th July

The weather did not look promising today, not at all. At home it was damp and a bit windy and Cwmystwyth (the location for the film) is nearly always a lot worse than it is here. It's only about 25 miles away but in a much more mountainous region and the mine is on an exposed hillside. After the usual faffing around, making sandwiches etc. we set off in a light drizzle driving in convoy. It continued to rain all the way there.

When we got there it was blowing hard but there wasn't too much rain so we hauled the gear up the side of the mountain to the particualr derelict building which Clare had chosen as the location for the first scene to shoot. It took a while for everything to be set up and by the time we were ready to film it was raining a fair bit and I could see squalls of rain blowing in from directly behind me. Well, that first scene did get shot but it was chucking it down with rain. We had to abandon the shoot after that and get back to the cars as fast as we could because the equipment was getting soaked and so were we. We had our sandwiches sitting in wet clothes steaming up the inside of the car and, since the rain seemed to have no intention of abateing, turned for home.

Watched the short amount of footage we had shot when we got back, I captured the video at a larger size today so there's a few more stills below which should be better quality than yesterday, I've actually grabbed a still of this to use as my desktop picture, there's something very amusing to me about it all. I guess I just have to laugh really, or else.....?

We had some sound recording to do but in the meantime Lorna had prepared Sunday dinner, which was very welcome indeed. After that I read the voiceover several times until I could no longer read it without sounding like a robot. I was hoping that the microphone from the DAT machine might somehow be made to record into my computer but after trying several way, I don't think it can. I'd quite like to get one though.

Ok, so there's some repeats, but the quality should be better.
Butler hanging imaginary coats. Butler polishing rocks.
Mountain Spirits in procession. Mountain Spirits chanting.
Butler listening for music. Butler making rockpiles.
