my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Tuesday 14th July

Drove down to Clare's college in Llanelli with a quick stopover in town for laundry etc. Found Clare in the editing suite and watched what she had edited so far. The purpose of my being there was to see what equipment they had and see if I could work out how to use the Avid system for titling the film, since we couldn't print it to video here with only the camcorder. Was surprised to see it running on a Quadra under system 7.1, although I do remember the days when Quadras were the latest sexy thing, it does seem like some time ago. Didn't much like the software, had a very Windows look and feel to it, not nearly as intuitive as most mac software is. However I managed to work out the titling and then realised that the one title I had asked for had to be rendered in order to be laid into the track...and the render would take 2hrs and 20minutes. This seemed quite mad as the system I use here does it almost instantly. I was struggling with the concept of how long it might take to render several different titles, waiting around all day in a strange place for a render to happen is not my idea of a useful day out. Somehow, after much disscussion with the technician about how we could do what we needed to do she agreed to lend out a deck. This meant I could do all the titling here and then print it to tape.

Stopped by Clare's caravan on the way home as I remembered she had the leads and the tape in her van which would have meant I had this deck at home and no way of trying it out, which is enough to drive a gadget freak like me insane. There were lots of screaming children when I got home, but I largely managed to ignore them. Also saw Looey who was back from Swansea and Lisa who came by later to pick up her kids, so it somehow seemed quite busy here. I just had time to set the deck up and record some footage before dinner.

Finished a quick trial title sequence after eating and switched the leads around to print it. I'd forgotten to ask for a second lead, so I have to reverse the one between input and output, which is annoying to say the least. Unfortunately, something's still not working, the computer prints but the recoder does not record. I'm just hoping that I'm doing something wrong with the the buttons on the deck and that Clare will come round tommorow and know what it is. If the weather's fine we are going to film the last few reshoots, if not, no doubt I'll be sat here all day instead. I have noticed that this diary is getting a bit unweildy being a month to a page, it's not quite half way through the month and already it's take a long time to load, especially if the target is used. I'm working on splitting it up, but since that involves creating an index page as well as splitting two files up into about 26 files, it might not happen till the weekend. In the meantime there is the option to see todays page only.
