Bluehook's Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Total frustration morning. My arm was not looking like it was going to function at all. Then I managed to get it going just long enough to get the hay up to the field. Then it stopped dead. I got the hay through the fence and got it cut, I didn't even manage to divide it into two piles, I'd thrown the arm in the wheelbarrow by then. I then had to put the wheelbarrow away by tucking one handle into my armpit but couldn't get it over the ledge at the barn door until I kicked it through. I phoned the artificial limb centre then to see whether by any chance the replacement grypher unit had arrived but it hadn't, however Peter will call me tomorrow morning if it arrives then and I can go get it straight away. For now I'll just have to put up with being armless because the old body-powered split hook is no use as the socket is far too big now.
I thought I'd get out somewhere and got totally ready to leave but when I got to the car I realised that I was not nearly calm enough to be driving safely and went for a two mile walk instead. I was calmer by then end of that but still not feeling particularly safe so I headed for the safest place I know - bed. I didn't get very long in there, someone from Social Security arrived to give me a quite unnecessary grilling and so I had to wake up and find the relevant bits of paper to prove that I hadn't been naughty. Bloody cheek just arriving unannounced at the house like that, why don't these people just phone up or make an appointment? The whole thing could have been sorted out in a ten minute phone call, instead they have to send her out - all the way from Aberystwyth, driving around the countryside for nothing. Ack. I played Beethoven after that, just sat there and listened to that for over an hour. Then it was late afternoon, and I really had to go and take back the video.
I met Lisa in town and we went for a coffee in the New Bridge Cafe and met Jan in there too and Helen. We sat in there till closing time when all the hoovers come out and they start chasing you around for your money. Back home it was nearly dinner time and after that I meant to watch another video but that didn't quite happen. Instead I spent most of the evening helping Lorna deconstruct Lauren's bed and reconstruct it several inches shorter so that it would fit into the width of her room. Luckily it was a very cheaply made bed so it was quite simple, although lengthy, to pull it apart. Hansi and Irene had settled in front of the tv during this and we caught the end of Newsnight about genetically modified foods and then watched Iris Murdoch being interviewed. Clare arrived for a bath and we did try and watch a video but it was too late and it didn't really work. We all opted for bed instead.
