Bluehook's Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Late out of bed, horses had given up waiting and were up the top of the field and didn't even notice me bringing up the hay. I went into town for most of the afternoon and had a long egg and chips at the New Bridge Cafe and read the Cambrian News, they had printed the letter I sent in after the last WIT meeting but cut the middle paragraph which gives it a slightly different slant but at least we got the main point across.
We had been meant to go out for a serious wood collecting trip with the trailer but the weather was too disgusting, lots of really big fat rain and intermittent howling winds to contend with so I had to settle for hauling down a barrowload of wood from the field and sawing a couple of days kindling up. I don't like being out in the rain with an electric hand, I just never know how much water it can tolerate. After I'd got that done I was making up a batch of hummus to take up to a bring-a-dish dinner when Hanna arrived. She typed up a german version of one of her information leaflets while I finished off the hummus and then we spent a bit of time making some final changes to her promotional materials which are now virtually ready to go to the printers, it's only taken us about a year.
After Hanna had left I sat in the main kitchen for a while where Lorna was getting vast quantities of salad together and everybody was generally dilly dallying about and then we all got into cars and went up to Ru's barn, way up the mountain. The rain was pouring out of the sky like a waterfall and the sides of the road were running like streams. The depth of some of the puddles took me by surprise and I started having to crawl through them. Hansi and Lauren were with me, but luckily Irene and Lorna, driving the much lower to the ground and generally less waterproof car had gone up the mountain by a different route and hopefully were not getting stuck in a puddle somewhere. Lots of people had turned up at the barn and there was quite a spread on the table. There was even several puddings and piles of wine and other booze. The remarkable thing was that although we carried on until the small hours of the morning and all the kids were asleep on sofas, there was a lot of unconsumed alcohol, a lot of the wine bottles were not even opened. It was a nice evening, one of those rare occasions where there is a nice feeling of community spirit and everybody wants to do it again, soon. We came home and sat around a fire for another few hours and it was 6.00 am by the time I turned off the light.
