Bluehook's Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Happy Birthday Lorna
Once the horses were all fed and seen to I went driving off to Pontrefendigiad to have a look at a cooker that was for sale. The weather has changed a bit, it sort of looks nice out there but actually is really quite cold, but that's fine for driving. I found the house easily enough and was taken through to the garage to see the cooker, which looked very clean and in good order, it even has a battery ignition. I knew I was going to have it as soon as I saw it but I still watched the demonstration and listening to the advice on propane cylinders. There was nearly a disaster when I came to pay, as I pulled my cheque book out she said that she needed cash only and I didn't think I had that much cash which would have meant driving back to Tregaron to get a bank but when I looked at what was in my wallet I found most of the amount I needed and the rest was in my pocket. Phew. So I backed the car down the alleyway to the garage and attracted the attention of a couple of other people who were hanging about down there and who then helped load the cooker into the car. I came back via Stag's Head garage where I managed to get a propane regulator on tick and also found out about a builder who might have the right tool to drill a hole in the wall for the gas hose because, being propane, the cylinder should really be outside but the wall is about three feet thick there.
I had plenty time for lunch and for chopping some kindling and doing various little tasks like that around the place before everyone else started arriving home. I had booked a restaurant in Aberystwyth for 6.30 pm and that meant leaving the house an hour before and I wasn't sure if that was going to happen or not, but despite the fact that we had to get the cooker out of the car we set off only a few minutes after 5.30pm.
The restaurant was even smaller than I'd thought and they'd put together two tables to accommodate us lot and Sophie who managed to arrive after picking up a message left on the answering machine. The food was good although we could have done with a bigger salad and Lorna was suitably surprised when the waitress appeared with a birthday cake, candles and all. Suddenly it was 9.00 pm and time to leave. We came back via Borth to drop Sophie off which meant putting down the other tip down seat in the boot and that's maybe the first time I've had 7 in the car. It was quite late when we got home and I think we were all tired out by all the heavy food so after flopping around with a few cups of tea it was bedtime already.
