Bluehook's Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Well, it was meant to be gardening day but that wasn't really going to happen. Irene went away with Hansi a few days ago and Lorna was busy with Lauren being on half term and it was also raining a lot. Lisa had said she'd come over and do some more strimming but it was too wet for that as well but she said she would come anyway.
Well, she did come, bearing wine, chocolate, a pair of brand new overalls, paintbrushes, paint stripper, rust primer and a few other things although it was well into the afternoon by then and even later by the time we'd had a cup of tea and then taken a bale of hay up to the horses. The horses were a little skittery and Lisa managed to fall over backwards in the middle of the really muddy bit because she tried to step backwards from Princess and her wellies got stuck in the mud. Thus were the new overalls christened. She wasn't pleased with me for suggesting earlier that all she needed was a bit of mud on those overalls but we did have a good laugh about it and stood up there for ages looking at the horses and breathing the air. Then we set to the renovation of the 1953 rotivator that we bought last year. Today we had to concentrate on the grease layer which covered everything anywhere near the engine and all the fiddly bits and was a mixture of grease and mud, throroughly caked on. We used sugar soap and scrubbers, a wire brush, toothbrush, a couple of different attachments on the drill and the dremel. About half way through I realised that it might be easier if we took the wheels off and had it sitting on a block. The access is indeed better with the wheels off but, of course, you can see a lot more muck as well. Lisa might have carried on forever scrubbing round the nuts with a toothbrush but I had enough of that by about 6.00pm and begged to stop.
We nearly didn't manage to get ourselves together to eat. I had an idea to go out and eat but that in itself was fraught with problems. Where to go, when to go, how long to wait for Lorna. I thought we knew where we were going but when we phoned to see how late they served food there was no answer. Then we though we might just cook, but all the food I knew about was potatoes and a tin of Godzilla shapes. Lisa rejected the Godzilla and I rejected her idea of potatoes and gravy. Eventually we decided to go to the Indian restaurant in town and gave Lorna another half hour to get home or phone. She didn't turn up so at 8.00 pm we went off. We'd kind of left it a bit late and it was Friday so when we got there they were fully booked. We decided to head off to a pub round the corner, got half way and then decided to go back and get a take-away. We had a coffee while we were waiting there and then sprinted back home with the food. Lorna had arrived back by then and we all shared out the food, there would have been too much for two of us anyway, and opened up the bottle of wine. Lisa left after a while and Lorna went off for a bath so I decided to do the same and, well, it's bedtime again already.
