my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Sunday 21st June

Woke up at some appropriately late hour to the sounds of singing and guitar playing from the garden. Lots of half-naked women out on the front lawn, it was like a mini-festival going on out there, and of course, the picture wouldn't be complete without the kids running riot. Most delighted to find that I was bleeding already (that's as in my monthly bleed....not any of the wounds), and about a week early as well. Feeling a bit annoyed that I have to not only have a sore head but now cramps as well, right in the middle of the party weekend. In my more cynical way of thinking I wonder why it is that I seem to atract pain like a bitch on heat attracts randy dogs, but I know that pain is just part of life. (A few years ago I wrote a poem about pain...well and other things, its quite a depressing poem, but you can read it if you like, its called a poem about pain, lonliness and death. I'll be posting more poems as I go along.) So, anyway, I don't like doing it, but I took a couple of pain-killers figureing that it was better than being a miserable git all day long. Several hours passed by, and I'm not really sure what I was doing, just enjoying all the music that was happening and hanging out.

We had planned to have a sweat lodge in the evening and just as I thought we were never going to get it together, there was a sudden impetus to go and fetch the firewood. So we hitched up the trailer and set off to rustle some wood. Found a great spot really nearby and took home two trailerloads of nice dry wood. Sun had come out by then, and it was actually rather hot work. Well, I know that doesn't sound all that strenuous but I was done in by the end of that and had to go lie down for a few hours. Felt a bit guilty leaving everyone else to set up the bender, dig the firepit and light the big fire but I knew I'd be useless even if I was there so there was nothing for it but to head off to bed.

Woken up about 10.30pm, just as the light was starting to go, the end of the longest day of the year and the start of the shortest night. Everything had been done, a very cute little bender sitting under a tree and all the rocks red hot and ready to go in...perfect. We had all been in a sweat recently which had been rather disapointing because it had not been nearly hot enough so we were determined to get this one really good and hot. Luckily we didn't have any of the whingey 'I'm tooo hot, let me out' types so we got the lodge really really hot and dripped and ran with sweat....blissfull. I'd been a bit worried about the fresh wound on my head but it was fine as long as Ijust kept it cool with fresh water. Probably was good for it, certainly didn't cause me any problems. I want a pond out there, but haven't got around to it yet so we had a paddling pool out there to have a cold splashdown in after the sweat. I do like to hear the whoops and yells and screeches of wimmin dunking in the freezing cold water after the heat of the sweat. I always think I can be cool and do it silently, but I think I make as much noise as the rest of them.

Well, the dawn had well and truly broken by the time I found out where my bed was and fell over into it. Resolved to have a total DO NOTHING day tommorrow. Whether this is possible is another matter altogether.
