Bluehook's Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

The good weather went away, the rain came back, the horses didn't look all that pleased. I made a trip into town and went to Downhome Stoves to have a chat about the raeburn which is now virtually kaput, the grate having fallen apart completely and since the ash box is now stuck in there it will only stay in until there's too much ash. They promised to come out and have a look at it early next week and either replace the grate and maybe the back boiler or even replace the whole thing.
Back home I went out and made a bit of kindling and sawed up some of the wood we brought in from the garden the day before, then did some more work on WitWeb before I got sucked into the social activities at the other end of the house. I had a plan in mind for dinner but Sophie made a request for macaroni cheese which I didn't have the ingredients for but Lorna was going off into town and made a trip to pioneer for the relevant items for that and a big salad. I did some more wood while I was waiting for her to get back, it was dark by then and the wood was supremely wet and slimey and unpleasant.
Then we realised that the tv aerials were not working because a wire had come detached and needed soldering. Hansi and I decided to have a go at mending it, I've never done soldering before but I did watch Marina do it so I though I had a fair idea about it. I had a go and then Hansi had a couple of gos but we couldn't get it in quite the right place and the contact plate was covered in bits of solder by then so we gave up. Lorna arrived back and I quickly got the macaroni cheese together and into the oven then we decided to have another go at the aerial. Somehow it worked first time, by sheer fluke and much to my relief. We got the rest of the dinner together then and ate it before retiring for a night in front of the tv.
