my

Bluehooks Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Thursday 24th September

Sleeping in the caravan was fantastic. After I had eliminated all noise-making sources, including a kettle which rattled on the cooker every time I moved and hidden a ticking carriage clock in the other room it was very peacfull and conducive to sleep. I could hear the horses galloping around the field, quite why they were doing that at 3.00am I don't know, but it was a lovely sound. I woke up not in a bad mood for the first time in several days.

We didn't have a big outing today, just went into town and had lunch in the New Bridge Cafe and I left Mary to "explore" Lampeter while I did a few things including a visit to the vet to buy wormer. He asked me if it was for a dog or a cat and I told him two dogs, two cats and a kitten and two horses. Actually only one of these animals has visible evidence of worms but I'm sure some of the others do or soon will have and the horses need to be done regularly anyway.

Clare was here when we got back and we had a little go at picking Princess's feet. The farrier is coming (supposidly) on Tuesday and she has to be a good horse for him or we'll never see him again. Unfortunately she was not liking this too much and Clare got her foot stood on rather hard. A bit later I sat up on Nelly while Clare lunged her around a circle she had cleared in the hay. David is meant to be arriving any day now to take it off the field but he didn't show up today as I was hoping he might.

Tonight was the first of our thursday nights off... ie. no-one cooks the communal meal and we all sort ourselves out. It was a bit strange to not be eating together and also peculiar to be cooking in my own kitchen where I never usually do more than make a sandwich or heat up a pan of spaggetti hoops (and eat it out of the pan too). Still, it made an interesting change.
