I started doing this diary in June, it's quite new. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
I had a right laugh this morning. There's a question in my guestbook that says something like "Will I ever get to grips with JavaScript?" and somebody has been in there and simply said "No". Very direct I suppose but it just make me all the more determined to do it. I've been into the bookshop in town several times this week asking about the book I ordered but it hasn't arrived yet. They do keep promising to phone me if it ever gets there. At this rate I'll be reading it on the plane to Michigan.
Had to make another trip to town this morning, mainly to pick up the tickets for Edinburgh and get something to cook tonight. There was a "Food Festival" on in town today, with one of Lampeters three streets cut off to traffic and a number of stalls in the road. There was an almost festive atmosphere there with lots of people wandering around looking for free samples. The local bookshop was there selling food books, the electrical shop was selling food related electrical items, the health food shop, the local wafflers, wine makers, some rather unpleasant looking carcass stalls and a whole mobile promotion unit dedicated to Welsh Salter Butter. I ended up in Kwik Save (otherwise known as Kwik Krap) and made a marvellous discovery.
There's a bit of a thing going on with what is basically spaghetti hoops (spaggetios in U.S. parlance I believe) made into different shapes. Now, I've seen Barbie shapes and Mr. Men, Caspar the Ghost and several others but I never really had the urge to buy. But I particularly like the "Mission Statement" on this one, here's an enlargement.
Eradicate Dr X. Yeah, I liked that. Oh dear, what is wrong with me?
Not long after I got back Nicole arrived, she's up on a visit from London and had been one of the surprise faces last night. I sneaked off to the field to do a couple of quick barrowloads of horse shit while Irene entertained her to the guided tour. Since we've only been living here a couple of months a lot of our friends, especially those from further away haven't seen the place yet, so we still seem to be doing the guided tour a lot. I joined her after that in the garden and did some socialising for a while. I'm almost forgetting how to do it, it feels like it's been a while since I did any pure socialising. I had just started shovelling shit again when another two visitors arrived so Nicole took over the shit shovelling and I gave Marina and Charlotte the guided tour. Nicole joined us then and we had more socialising, talked a lot about disability benefits, that being a common area of interest for all four of us and about driving in America and about the festie, etc etc. I let the time run away with me, it was 7.30pm when Marina and Charlotte left and I had intended to start cooking at 6.00pm. I was lucky to have Nicole around, she's one of these people who is endlessly helpful and obliging and I found her in the kitchen washing up yesterday's dishes which was just as well because there was not a clean pan in sight. She even helped me with the vege chopping. One might be forgiven for wondering whether I only invite people to stay for dinner because I know they will help me out in the kitchen.
After dinner I had the unpleasant task of attempting to deal with a nasty foot fungus which has grown on the sole of my foot. I'm just hoping that Golden Seal is anti-fungal as well as everything else otherwise I maybe shouldn't have cut those holes like that. The way it is stinging now, I have to assume it is having some effect.
