I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
Another blastingly gorgeous lovely sunny day again. Even more so than the last two days. Once the horses were fed I finished the blocks for the temporary gate and went out to fix them in place, all I've done is move it to the other side of the posts so that if Princess does barge it she will be barging the posts not the blocks so she won't be able to get through that. I really wanted to be outside, not sitting on the computer but I was expecting work so I was hanging around outside with the back door open in case the phone rang. Wanting something, anything, to be doing out there I started clearing the path where the grass was encroaching on it and worked my way round the whole of the back of the house and started clearing the side of the small barn. I soon filled up two wheelbarrow loads of turf and used some of it to mend holes that Tigger dog had dug in the lawn when he was a puppy. |
At one point I noticed that the answering machine light was flashing, that must have happened when I was taking the wheelbarrow to the compost heap. It wasn't work though, it was Leon asking me to phone him back a bit later. The postman arrived then with lots of exciting things for me. Well, one of them was meant to be exciting but wasn't, a roll of film I'd sent off for developing came back because I'd forgotten to put an cheque in with it. Duh. But I did get a couple of new sucker brushes, which suck properly and two tap handles for the kitchen sink which means that I can use my prosthetic to turn the taps. The last exciting thing was a new phone I'd ordered which has a hands free button. I was pleased to find out that it works and doesn't interfere with the other phone/fax/answering machine or the modem, all coming out of one line. It seems like a complicated system, but it was the only way to do it. I used it to call my Dad back after the appointed hour but I felt silly shouting at the phone and since I wasn't using my hand I picked up the handset, I suppose I'll get used to it. Anyway he was wanting to know if I could do anything about his company's website and I said I'd have a look at it and see. I did look at it later and it needs some serious attention but that's another story. While I'd been talking to him Dave had phoned and I spent a while trying to get through to him and looking at my watch the whole time because I needed to go out and buy pig food and I had a notion that the farmers' co-op in Tregaron closed at 3.00 pm. I got through eventually and the speaker phone came into its own because he was giving me amendments to a file as I was looking at it and I really felt the benefit of not having the phone clamped under my ear, I was well happy about that. That was all I had to do on that for the moment but he said he'd phone back in a couple of hours time with the next lot of stuff to do. I went off to get the pig food and some fizzy water for making elderflower cordial. Helen and her two babies were here when I got back and everyone was sat out on the grass in the garden, I think it's the first time that it's been dry enough to do that this year. I sat out there and had a cup of tea and then realised that it was half way through the afternoon and I hadn't eaten yet so I came in and made a sandwich then went out and did some more weeding and scraping and when it got to the point where I didn't think the phone call was going to come I went out and gave the horses their bucket feed and while they were eating I put on the hose and filled up the water troughs and then watered everything in the greenhouse very thoroughly because the heat has been a bit extreme in there even with the door open and some of them are looking a bit wilty. |
I had a nice quiet evening because everyone else was off out to a fashion show and so I had time to get on with the poster for the next WIT event and catch up with this stuff and maybe I'll even get a bath in tonight. |
