Bluehook's Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

I woke up half hoping the fire had gone out and half hoping it hadn't. It had which was good really because then I could clean it out and mend the bars which were broken. But it was bad because it was cold and I had to take my coffee back to bed. Then I looked at the fire, cleaned it all out and determined which bars needed replacing then thought I should really phone the shop and check out whether they are even open. They were open and had the bars in stock but were going to be closed in 15 minutes. So then I had to make a mad dash into town and got there just in time, grabbed three bars and made a quick dash round Pioneer and back home. It was a major struggle to get the old bars out and Irene came to help as well. It did get fixed in the end and the riddling system now works a treat, much better than it ever did before.
I spent most of the rest of the afternoon nursing an ailing fire which only seemed to want to be alight in one very small patch near the centre. This should not have been the case given the fully functional grate and the strong winds that were blowing but after I had wasted too much kindling on it I resorted to sawing up some pine and chopping it up nicely as a final offering to the fire. That did the trick and after a while I was able to put on the central heating in the rest of the house and lie down in front of the nice roaring fire which I'd waited hours for. Well, it felt like hours, I have no idea how long it really was.
I cooked the dinner tonight which sees me back into the domestic routine. I feel like I've had quite a lot of rest today, so maybe tomorrow I'll be getting out there again. The woodpile certainly needs replenishing.
