Bluehook's Diary

I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.

Nobody about all morning, which was pretty much as I'd figured after a party night. I'd made an arrangement to go and see about a lawnmower in Ffarmers at 10.30 am and then remembered that I needed to go and pay off Downhome stoves and I was desperate for some avocados because there hadn't been any at the organics yesterday. I couldn't understand why the organics shop was shut and it wasn't till I drove through town on the way to Downhome stoves and saw the procession with the cross that I remembered it was Good Friday. I was going to be early for my lawnmower appointment, which is really not the done thing around here, anything less than an hour and a half late is obscenely early but I came up behind a flock of sheep and lambs being moved up the road and that slowed me down nicely. Little lambs are particularly cute when they are trotting along like that. Then on my way into Ffarmers I came across another procession with a cross and it was a narrow lane so I pulled in to let them pass and turned down the stereo. So I wasn't all that early. The lawnmower looked great and was just what I wanted, petrol engine, self propelled, adjustable blade height and the best of all is that the trigger is a bar that goes right across so it is easy to use one handed or with the prosthetic. I was so pleased I bought a shredder as well.
I got some lunch made when I got home and then went out to play with the shredder. I need a longer extension lead to get it all the way to the compost but I barrowed some bark and other stuff down to where it was and it shredded it up nicely, brambles, twigs, small branches, everything. Lovely for mulching or just to turn the slow rot compost heap into a faster rot heap. I came back in for a while and made some phone calls and then realised that it was starting to rain so I had to run out and take the extension leads and the shredder back into the barn very quickly, it's hard to run with a shredder, I must say.
A few more phone calls and even some WIT jobs done on the computer and by then everyone else was up and ready to get out there into the garden. We did have a bit of a dilatory time out there with a few tea breaks and what have you but between us we also managed to clear the greenhouse of rubble, pick more roots and stones out of the pig pen and repot all the borage plants which were getting too big for the seed tray. I ended up swapping dinner with Irene because I'd made so much salad at lunchtime and never got round to eating it and so it was easy just to turn it into dinner. We had a bit of a chat night after dinner and it helped me with some of the bad feelings I've been having.
