I started doing this diary in June. If you haven't been following have a look at the Cast of Characters which gives a quick
low down on the essential day to day characters who are mentioned here...it will make more sense if you do.
Another bad night. I was so tired I was convinced I would sleep so went to bed really quite early... well, the light was off by 2.00am, and that's early for me. An hour later I was more wide awake than I ever am in the morning even after a good night's sleep and a whole pint of coffee. So I got up again and sat at the computer, resorted this time to playing a series of dreadfull games (I'm far too tight-fisted to spend actual money on games so I just rely on whatever comes on the free cds on magazine covers.) I must have gone back to bed about 4.30am and again it was about 9.00am by the time I fell asleep. I woke up at 1.30pm when Lorna came in to borrow some coffee, she was at the bottom of the stairs asking me if I wanted her to put my kettle on and I remember thinking "What the hell is she asking me that for?" and then I saw what the time was.
I was annoyed at having wasted half the day away when I felt like I had loads to do but managed to avoid having to go into town because Lorna was going and said she would do the few bits of shopping I needed. That left me time to do the hoovering, get the rubbish out, get the fire laid, make up the bed with fresh bedding, do all that sort of general tidying stuff and have a bath. There's something about a parental visit, it's as if all the spiders in the world spend several days working overtime to create cobwebs where there never were cobwebs before. I made a phone call to the OT who I will be seeing in Swansea tomorrow to ask if I could get there in the afternoon and explained that I was sleeping in the mornings rather than at night, but she had another appointment in Llanelli at 2.00pm so really the latest I can get there is 12.00 and that means leaving here at 10.30am, which means waking up at 9.30am. After a while I realised that I hadn't asked Lorna to get any milk and I was going to need quite a lot to make the dinner so rather than going all the way into town and getting caught up in all that I drove down to Llangybi which is the nearest village with a shop and bought a couple of pints. While I was in the village I thought I might as well check out the farm where I had been yesterday looking for hay and was pleased to find that she was in this time. Although she didn't actually know my name she did know where I lived and who I lived with and probably a whole lot more besides, but that is the nature of things round here, whether you like it or not, everybody knows what everybody else is up to. Anyway I saw the hay, which looked good and ordered 100 bales of it. It was nearly time to get cooking when I arrived home but I decided to light the fire first, and that took longer than it should have done because it was very reluctant to go, at one point I had to run outside and saw up some dry pine just to persuade it to go but after that it did work and I was able to get into the kitchen.
Irene and Hansi weren't around and it seemed like it would be a nice quiet household for the evening so I though we would all eat together when Leon and Mary arrived. Of course the dogs went barking crazy when they got here, especially Jade who is not at all used to men but they chilled out fairly quickly. We were just having a glass of wine when Charlotte and her two toddlers arrived and between them and Lauren and the dogs and the kitten the raeburn room was soon in it's usual chaotic state. Oh well, why try and pretend I live in a civilised household when I live in a total madhouse, they were bound to find out sooner or later. We retired to the relative calm of my sitting room after dinner and talked about horses and talked about plumbing and insomnia and all those sorts of subjects. Lucky for me Mary happened to have some over the counter sleeping pills with her. I knew about these but somehow hadn't actually thought to try them so I'm going to have a couple of those in a minute and not have to worry about getting up half an hour after I fall asleep tommorow.
