The Honorable Judge Kay Tsenin speaks to the crowd of ... "Traditions... old customs handed down from generation-to-generation. Some remain and become a steadfast part of a culture. The joining of two loving people in marriage, for instance. The traditions associated with this centuries old custom of union are vast, each with their own cultural and personal significance: Jumping the broom, drinking from and then breaking the glass, contracts of honor, lighting of candles... and many, many more.
And there was even a time when marriage between gays was by rites & ceremonies sanctioned by the Church. A Kiev art museum contains an icon found at Saint Catherine's monastery on Mount Sinai. The icon shows two robed Christian saints, Saint Serge and Saint Bacchus and between them is the traditional Roman pronubus, or best man, overseeing what would be, in a standard Roman icon, a wedding of a husband and wife. Of great importance is the fact that the best man pictured in this icon of marriage of two men is in fact Jesus Christ."
