Choosing An Electrologist

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING AN ELECTROLOGIST:

Ask what type of sterilization is used in the office. It should consist of an ultrasonic cleaner, autoclave, or dry heat sterilizer. Anything less is unacceptable.

Ask if separate probes or disposable probes are used for each individual.

Massachusetts electrologists must be registered by the state and the electrologist should display their license in the office.

Member of the Massachusetts and American Association of Electrologists with the currently dated renewal stickers
Certified Professional Electrologist validated by the International Board of Electrologist Certification
CPE certification certificates that display CEU course hours that total approximately 1.5 on a yearly basis to maintain the CPE status.

You should expect to visit a clean and professional office. If the electrologist has all of the above, make an appointment for a consultation to discuss the area to be treated. If you feel confident enough to proceed, the electrologist may be able to give you a treatment that day.
