Make-Up Tips from the Genetic Girl
by Jennifer Corley

For every MTF TG, their worse enemy is the dread beard shadow. You could look perfect and that lovely five o'clock shadow will get you read like there’s no tomorrow. For those of us not able to have electrolysis we must make due.

The first obstacle is how do get that perfect shave. Most men have a beard that grows in every which direction. making it difficult to have a close shave, especially on the neck. The basic solution to getting a close, close shave is shaving several times, using very hot water and lots of Edge shaving cream. One new item on the market is the Total Shaving Solution, an oil based formula that basically eliminates the problems of razor bums, bumps, nicks and scrapes. Just use 3 or 4 drops each time you shave. We have heard nothing but raves about this product and have bought some for ourselves. Look real close at Michele's neck at the next meeting! Now, to cover that blue-black shadow. One trick is to apply redish-orange lipstick to darker areas, and then wipe oft leaving only a stain of color. For those of you who demand professional (and expensive) blue-blocker, you can order little tubs of it from theatrical stores, or such TO outfits as Lydia's or Lola’s.

Of course, to actually cover the beard, most of us use Dermablend. which can be found at any department store cosmetics counter. However, I personally have always found something lacking with Dermablend. No amount of experimenting has left me satisfied. I’m always annoyed with it’s pasty, thick look on Michele’s face. Luckily, the geniuses in the make-up industry have come up with a new type of base makeup using cyclomethicone, a silicon based ingredient that allows makeup of extraordinary coverage for up to 16 hours.

Different brands using cyclomethicone include Ultima II Wonder-wear, Revlon Colorstay, Almay Amazing Lasting Makeup, L’Oreal Feel Prefecte, Maybelline Great Wear, Max Factor Lasting Performance, and Cover Girl Continuous Wear Each of these are a liquid that requires mixing before application, The make-up, looking a tad like latex paint. sets in about 60 seconds. One coat will cover most beards, two for those extra pesky shadows. To remove, this type of make-up, you will need baby-oil or cold cream first. Water and soap won’t remove these new foundations otherwise.

The advantages in this type of makeup is that it will stay on rain, sleet, snow, or shine, and can be worn on the neck without rubbing off on those turtle necks. To chose the right color, you must TEST it (if you don’t mind the price, those girls at the make-up counters at Dillard’s or Foley’s will always let you try on foundation) on your face, the foundation should blend so well into your skin that appears to disappear. When using foundation all over your face, be sure to blend into your jaw-line and your neck, Otherwise, you will have a distinct line between the two, and it will look like you have a mask on.

Next month, we’ will talk about those beautiful, sultry eyes!
