A Woman's World
by Stephanie Robin
I feel it is time to make mention of a phenomenon that is generally sweeping the nation. That is the gracious acceptance of transgenders by the female world.
Face it, 'girls': We are not, nor will we ever be, females. We simply cannot reproduce. Therefore, in the strictest sense, we are not female. And for us to kid ourselves is unkind to our psyche. But, we can be, and are, women. Without a doubt, the rest of our psyche is definitely feminine.
Still, lacking a certain respect and understanding of what it is to become 100% woman, I have noticed that women today have begun accepting of our role in this society.
I am not surprised at this either. Women have been so repressed over the past bazzilion centuries that they have an innate understanding of what it means to be downcast.
And when it comes to religion, today's women are no longer listening to the typical male dogma about what you must do, who you must like, and what is proper in this society. After all, if God made us in His own image, we are female in the womb first.. therefore, God is Female first. That Adam and Eve stuff is simply a way to pin the blame on woman for man's weakness in himself Get a grip, guys!
No, women are very much taking a stand against the very fabric of what our society believes and they are taking us with them.
I am thrilled.
As a 'man', I have always welcomed women into my world. I enjoy showing them how men act in certain situations. It is interesting discussing why a man's emotions run a certain line, and to understand why a woman's may run just the opposite.
It is fun and educational for both of us to go to football games, have a beer at a bar, or put together some home or business project. I have found that a woman's point of view toward things when IN a man's world is very interesting and enlightening.
And now I can share in the other direction. When I am a 'man', women have a certain reservation toward me. It may be the dreaded word sex, or it may be some intimidation that I am not aware of. Still, I feel as if I have not made a complete contact into their world.
Yet, let me don my native clothes, a dash of color and shiny hair, then voila - the conversation is totally different.
A woman speaks to Stephanie as if she were talking to her little sister. She will explain, show, and be very patient with me depending on the subject matter. Conversation is very unrestricted. It goes from clothes, to cars, (Yes Guys - women do talk about cars to other women. They won't talk with you because you are so darn arrogant about it they simply don't want to put you down), politics, food, and our society at large. Thank God they are patient with me; after all, I do have a lot of catching up to do.
Of course, I will never feel the emotions of each monthly cycle. No amount of hormones can cause that to come into being. So, I will be in a world where there are a few closed doors--ones that the keys I have will simply not fit.
Still, I want to thank you all for allowing me and my fellow sisters to come into your world. I hope that we can enlighten it, bring joy and some good times.
Also, I feel a little like a spy! By day, I am a computer engineer incognito as an internal Jane Bond, seeking out injustice to women. By night I transform into my real self where I can report on the progress of my secret missions. Then each day I return to the male world a little wiser.
And I bring into that male world a little more respect for women. Don't forget, a transgendered person crosses all boundaries and we can, very much, influence the way other men think, act, and behave. And to tell you the truth, I have had it with most of them.. and they know it. I have noticed that the level of "Girly" jokes has dropped considerably in my company. I hope I have been a part of that.
Now if I can just stop those computer geek jokes.
