My TGirl girlfriend and I went our separate ways in June of this year.

March 6, 1999

I was born in the first quarter of 1947. (If you can't do the math, do the arithmetic). My first memory of being fascinated with women's clothes was the Sears catalog my family used to get when I was very young. The first time I ever crossdressed was at a party on Bay State Road in Boston around 1966 or 1967. Some girls made me up, put a wig on me and dressed me up. It was as if a switch was thrown. At one point a guy started talking to me and when I said something his jaw dropped and he told me he had thought I was a real girl. The seed was germinated but remained dormant. After I got out of school I went to work in Thailand in December of 1970. One night I was coming out of the Rome Bar on Patpong Road in Bangkok with a girl I had dated previously. Standing on the sidewalk was a gorgeous Katoy (as Thai ladyboys are known). I intuitively knew what she was and my heart went into my throat. Many Thai Katoys are absolutely stunning and difficult to discern for Westerners since they are small boned with very delicate features. The following night I went back looking for her but found another Katoy. We dated and an entire new dimension opened up. I ran with the Katoys and at one point I asked my lover, Bu, to dress me up and it went to the next level. I dressed as often as possible and even cruised Bangkok in taxis with my friends as they picked up foreigners. I came home from Thailand in the Spring of 1973. I kicked around for awhile and the glamazon went dormant. In 1978, in Boston, I met Tobi Marsh, one great queen who used to work at the Club 82 in New York. We became lovers and we lived in a town house in the South End of Boston ('Wuthering Heights') with Karl Houston who ran drag shows all over New England but with a long regular booking at the now defunct Green Apple nightclub on Route 1 north of Boston. They used to go off to their bookings and I would take the hinge off their walk in closet and play dressup. I shot some photos and showed them to Tobi and the genie was out of the bottle. Tobi's initial reaction was that there was only room for one woman in the relationship but, good hearted queen that she is, she relented and , with her and Karl's blessing I got to apprentice with the pros. Tobi gave me the name Barbette after Vander Clyne, the trapeze artist and 'wire-walker' from Texas, who had a sensational career in Europe performing in drag in the 20's and 30's under the stage name of Barbette. He retired to Texas where he died several years ago. Soon Tobi and I moved to a small apartment on Beacon Hill and I started to go to Jacques', the local drag bar. Tobi and I drifted apart and I became quite the busy little girl until 1984 when I kind of got tired of the whole thing and made some changes in my life. I didn't really want to purge since I had invested so much in my wardrobe, so I stashed my things with my friend Dominique in Chelsea. After a few years I got to work on a decent career and in February of 1996 I met my girlfriend. She is a TGirl from Puerto Rico and is not fluent in English. She is a very decent human being and we are good for each other. She is very private and, as of now, does not want to be on the website. In November of 1998 the bug (a 14 year cicada?) burst out of the ground and I decided to start dressing again. I called Dominique, and she said to come on over. I had stashed several trunks in her attic but a female roommate of hers had surreptitiously walked off with my things when she moved out. Not to worry, I had specifically told Dominique that if she needed the space she could give my things away or sell them. This girl knows how to shop smart so I've replenished my wardrobe and have shot a number of pictures, as you can see on my photo pages. My dressing has a fetishistic aspect to it. I love satin and all things shiny. I love leather and latex but, since these are more expensive, it will take some time to acquire good items of these. I'm older, but I'm back. I don't go out in public and this time I'm keeping the day job. In January my girlfriend and I attended a Tiffany Club (www.tcne.org) event on a Saturday night north of Boston and stayed overnight. It was nice and I ran into some old friends who hadn't seen me in drag in 14 years and some who had never seen me in drag. My girlfriend has even made me some clothes. She is a magician with a sewing machine.
