The language contained in this section is not meant to offend - it's meant to be clear.

It goes without saying that S/M etiquette is a must. This section of our page is about protecting your health. In general, use your common sense, take care of your body and your immune system.. if you're sick don't play - rest :) Get some of that good 'ol chicken noodle soup of Mom's and rest in bed - *wiggle eyebrows* there are other kinds of play that are much less stressful on the body.

When you do play... play safer.

HIV ... can be passed on from one person to another through:
cum * blood * feces(shit)
HIV cannot be passed on through:
spit * sweat

It is important to remember that the virus can only be "transmitted" when it has a way out of one body and a way in to another body.

If you just apply those ideas to any play/scening then you'll be fine.

YOUR BODY
Some of our most wonderful "bits" are our most delicate in some ways. Your ass and your vagina, for instance, can be very fragile under certain circumstances. Sticking anything up you ass can cause tears in the rectal lining and these tears, even when extremely small can give the virus an opening to get into your body.

The same goes for your vagina - any tears, even small ones can open you up for transmission of the virus. So...what do we do about that?

If you're inserting your finger/s into someone's ass of vagina... use a finger cot (it looks like the finger cut out of the a latex glove)... and always use lube. Make sure that any lube that you use is water based, some good kinds are K-Y, Lubafax, Muco or ForePlay. Never, ever use lube that is oil-based... this kind of lube weakens latex and is hard to wash off and can have more germs in/on it. Don't "dip" your hand into a large container - use one time packets of lube or containers that dispense "untouched" lube.. i.e.. pumps.

If you are inserting a sex toy, dildo, vibrator... or ... anything else creative... use lube!!! Better yet - put a condom on the toy - it will be much easier to clean afterwards.

Get to know your partners vagina/ass - funny as that sounds - it's very helpful. Know what her limits are, and pay careful attention to her boundaries and her physical sensations. We are often the best judges of what is good and bad for us.

TOYS
Do NOT share your toys!!! It's recommended for bottoms/ submissives to own their own toys. This way there is no risk of transmission as your Top/Domme can always use only your toys on you.

If you absolutely MUST share toys or if you draw blood be sure and clean the toys thoroughly.

You can clean toys with the following:

soap and hot water * rubbing alcohol * hydrogen peroxide
* one part bleach to nine parts water

Wash a toy in one of the above substances for 20 minutes, then rinse the toy in hot water.

Toys can be washed in the dishwasher or washing machine as long as the water stays at 56C/132F for at least 20 minutes.

Leather toys can be cleaned by wiping with a clean rag that has been soaked in hot soapy water. Wipe down then with another rag soaked in rubbing alcohol. Wipe down again with hot water. Put the toy aside for at least 24 hours. Later on you can rub mink oil on the toy in case the alcohol has dried it out.

FISTING
Fisting is extremely hard on your body whether it's your ass or your vagina. You must take extra care that you don't get fucked by anything that might have germs on it to reduce infection. Make sure all your toys are clean and that anything that goes into you is clean. If you are going to fist, you must use latex gloves, preferably surgical gloves that come far up your forearm.

If you're going to be fisting, (or just fingering someone) for that matter CUT your fingernails and make sure that the ends of them are smooth. Do not fist or finger if you have open wounds on your hands.

RIMMING
Rimming a clean ass is a low risk activity for HIV, however, it's high risk for other STD's. If you're going to rim use a dental dam... if you don't have one then cut open a condom and use that.

SHAVING, PIERCING, BRANDING
If you want to have a permanent piercing... go to a professional. If you contact an AIDS organization in your region they will probably be able to recommend respected piercing/tattoo parlors.

If you are performing/having a temporary piercing for a scene, make sure you use a new, disposable sterile needle. Use this only once and only on one person.

Heat branding is safe - as the heat of the branding iron kills the virus. Any kind of knife branding/scarring should only be done with a knife that is sterilized or soaked in alcohol for 20 minutes

Piercing, branding, shaving... if there are any drops of blood wipe them away with a cotton ball with alcohol on it. You can also use prepackaged alcohol swabs if you have access to them. Before you start anything like this you should clean the area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol.

WHIPPING
If there's no blood - no worries. If you break the skin - some whips can do that - and some styles of flogging - then wipe the skin with alcohol. Clean the whip as mentioned above.

ELECTRIC TORTURE
Keep your equipment clean. Avoid breaking the skin. If you do break the skin, wipe up blood with cotton balls soaked in alcohol. Clean the terminals in the above mentioned way.

Only use electric charges below the heart level... you do not want to affect the electrical system of the heart.

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
Play clean and clear! You should always have your wits about you when you're scening. The Top needs to be in control of themselves and the bottom needs to be clearly aware of their limitations. Don't mix drugs/alcohol with S/M.
